A Satoshi is the most smallest unit of the Bitcoin currency.
It is similar to the penny in the United States Dollar with one main difference.
A penny is in the second decimal place i-e ($0.01)
A Satoshi is found in the 8th decimal place: ₿0.00000001.
This means that 100,000,000 (100 Million) Satoshis are equal to 1 Bitcoin.
This is why Bitcoin is said to be “highly divisible”.The name for this unit of Bitcoin is a reference to Satoshi Nakamoto the mysterious person whop invented the blockchain technology, and its first application Bitcoin.
To this day, Satoshi remains anonymous and nobody knows who he really is. In October 12, 2008. Nakamoto published a paper on the cryptography mailing list at metzdowd describing the bitcoin digital currency algorithm. It was titled "Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Currency System". In January 2009, Satoshi Nakamoto released the first bitcoin software that launched the network and the first units of the bitcoin cryptocurrency, called bitcoins. Satoshi Nakamoto released the Version 0.1 of blockchain software on Sourceforge on January 2009.
